A precise cut returns more of the stone's green, so it commands a premium.
Color drives value more than any other factor, with the deepest, most saturated greens commanding the highest prices.
Every emerald has inclusions. Less oil treatment means a rarer, more valuable stone.

This tool gives a rough estimate for reference only. Origin, transparency, and treatment history all move the price of a real stone, so use a certified gemologist for a formal appraisal.
This calculator estimates the market value of a Colombian emerald using the same four factors gemologists use to grade any colored gemstone: carat weight, cut quality, color, and clarity enhancement. Together these are known as the 4Cs, and they explain most of the price difference between two emeralds of similar size.
Color is the biggest driver of value. Colombian emeralds range from light, slightly yellow-green stones to the deep, saturated green the country is famous for, and price rises sharply as saturation increases. Read our full guide to emerald colour grading for a closer look at how graders assess tone and saturation.
Clarity enhancement matters almost as much. Nearly every natural emerald is treated with oil or resin to fill surface-reaching inclusions, and the amount of treatment affects both durability and value. Our guide to emerald treatments explains what No Oil, Minor, and Significant enhancement actually mean for a stone you're considering.
Carat weight and cut round out the estimate. Larger stones carry a per-carat premium because fine large emeralds are rarer, and a precise cut returns more of the stone's color and brilliance than a rushed one. For a broader look at how all four factors combine in real market pricing, see our complete Colombian emerald price guide.
This tool gives a starting estimate, not a certified valuation. Origin and treatment history should always be confirmed by a recognized lab. Learn more about how we verify every stone we sell on our certification and traceability page.
This tool gives a realistic starting range based on carat, cut, color, and clarity enhancement. Real market prices also depend on transparency, origin verification, and current demand, so treat the result as a guide rather than a final valuation. Color has the biggest impact on price, followed by clarity enhancement. Two emeralds of identical carat weight can differ in value by several times over based on color saturation and how much oil treatment they've received.
"No Oil" means a stone has little to no clarity enhancement, which is rare since nearly all natural emeralds are treated. Because untreated stones are uncommon and considered more durable, they command a significant premium over treated stones of similar color and size.
Yes, for anything beyond a rough estimate. A certificate from a recognized lab confirms origin and treatment level, both of which affect price significantly. See our certification and traceability page for the labs we work with.
